Who can apply for an initial residence and self-employed​ work permit in Spain?

It can be requested by non-European citizens who are outside of Spain and prove that they meet the necessary conditions to open their business or start their desired activity.

What conditions must I meet?

You must meet the requirements for the opening and operation of the projected activity, possess the required professional qualification or accredited experience (which must be sufficient in the exercise of the professional activity); as well as be able to prove the required investment for the creation of the business. The necessary authorizations or licenses will depend on the desired activity.

How long does this procedure take to complete?

The resolution period for this procedure is 3 months starting from the filing of the application. Once your application has been resolved favourably, the interested party may apply for a self-employed work visa to enter Spain.

Once in Spain, you must start contributing to Social Security and request your foreigner identification card (TIE).
